Das Gemälde bietet ein höchst interessantes Sujet: Die Ansicht der venezianischen Markus Basilika, hier in fantasievoller Weise direkt an das Ufer des Canal Grande gerückt, davor der Campanile. Rechts daneben die Biblioteca del Sansovino. Die willkürliche Zusammenstellung der venezianischen Baudenkmäler gibt eine fantasievolle, wenngleich nicht korrekte Vedute Venedigs wieder. Der Segelmast des Schiffes links mit holländischer Flagge besetzt, links hinten eine große zweimastige Handelskogge. Im Vordergrund fein gemalte Figurenstaffage mit Kauf- und Edelleuten sowie einem Mann mit Turban. Im Hintergrund setzt sich die venezianische Stadtlandschaft ebenso fantasievoll fort. (1091872) (11)
