Weichholz, geschnitzt, Köpfe in Inkarnatfassung, die Gewänder vergoldet. Eine der Büsten möglicherweise ein Apostel, die andere ein Heiliger in einem Kapuziner-Mönchsgewand mit Kapuze. An beiden Büsten an der Vorderseite eine Öffnung zur Einbringung der Reliquie eingearbeitet. Die Köpfe vollrund gearbeitet, die Rückseiten der Oberkörper kursorisch bearbeitet, jedoch mit hochrechteckiger Öffnung zur Einbringung der Reliquien von der Rückseite (Verschlussbretter fehlen). Auf punziertem Fassungsgrund, mit Brokatornamentik. Als Fassungsgrundlage teilweise Leinwand, mit Einarbeitung feststellbar. Originalfassung zwar weitgehend erhalten, aber altersbedingt an einigen Stellen abgeblättert und leicht überarbeitet. (1091256) (2) (11)

A PAIR OF LIFE -SIZE CARVED RELIC BUSTS OF BEARDED SAINTS
Height: 65 cm and 66 cm.
Carved softwood; the heads painted in flesh tones with gilded clothes. One of the busts is possibly an apostle, the other a saint wearing a hooded Capuchin monk‘s robe. Both busts have a cavity at the front and back to hold a relic (closure panels missing). Original polychromy largely preserved but flaked in places consistent with age and with minor over-painting.
This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
