James Brown,
born 1951 Los Angeles
Lives and works in Paris and Oaxaca, Mexico. Brown trained at the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. During his travels through Europe he concerned himself predominantly with Gothic and Renaissance Art. In 1983 he exhibited alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988) and Keith Haring (1958-1990) at the Shafrazi Gallery in New York. His gestural, abstract works show influences of regional tribal art and Classical Modernism.
