Betont großformatiges wandfüllendes Gemälde mit spätromantisch-naturalistischer Wiedergabe einer Rinderherde mit Schafen, von Schäfern an eine Wassertränke geführt. Ein junger Hirtenknabe einem Esel aufsitzend und dabei in ein gekrüpptes Horn blasend. Am linken hinteren Ende der Herde ein nachziehender Hirte, am linken Bildrand ein Hirtenhund.
