Gerahmt beschrieben. Rest.

Amedeo Modigliani,
1884 Livorno - 1920 Paris

HANKA ZBOROWSKA WITH COLLAR

Pencil on paper.
42.5 x 26 cm.
Signed upper right.

Hanka Zborowska was a Polish aristocrat who married the poet and art dealer Léopold Zborowski (1889 - 1932) shortly after her arrival in Paris in 1914. As the wife of an art dealer she posed for Modigliani several times, even following the death of her husband. This fine drawing shows her seated and facing the viewer, the head is slightly tilted to the left and the long broad collar curves around her long neck reaching deep into her décolleté. The great artist who died young manages, seemingly effortlessly, to characterise his model in only a few strokes. Not examined out of frame. Restored.

Leopold Zborowski, Paris.

Literature:
Illustrated in: O. Patini, Amedeo Modigliani. Catalogo Generale. Disegni 1906 - 1920, Milan 1994, p. 181, no. 291.
