UNTITLED

Mixed media on card and panel.
67 x 89 cm.
Framed with glass.

The artist studied architecture in Chile and went to Paris in 1933, where he worked at the workshop of Le Corbusier. In 1938 he devoted himself to painting. He travelled through Europe and made the acquaintance of many artists including Salvador Dalí, Henry Moore and Alvar Aalto. Crucial for his artistic development, however, was his encounter and friendship with André Breton. From 1938 onwards and during the war he stayed in New York but returned to Europe in 1948 and settled in Rome in 1958. His works are ascribed to Surrealism. The artist’s fame has grown thanks to numerous international exhibitions of his work beginning in 1938 and most recently from 2012 - 2013 at Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg and the Baden-Baden Museum. The painting offered for sale here is an abstract composition with discernible linear human figures on a predominantly light brown background.
