Zuschreibung an den genannten Maler durch Francesco Petrucci.
Der Heilige Franz von Paola, Begründer des Ordens der Paulaner (1416 - 1507), 1519 von Papst Leo X heilig gesprochen, bekannt für seine asketische Lebensweise, hier im Halbbildnis dargestellt, mit visionärem Blick nach links oben in eine Lichtzone. Mit beiden Händen hält er eine Lichtmandorla mit der Aufschrift „caritas“. Der Heilige war Ratgeber des französischen Königs Ludwig XI. Zahlreiche Legenden ranken sich um den Heiligen. Seine bekannteste Darstellung ist wohl das Gemälde von Morello, dessen Malstil auch hier bei dem späteren Künstler erkennbar ist. (1010562)
