Beigegeben eine Stellungnahme von Larry Silver, 30. Juni 2012, der das hier angebotene Gemälde der Werkstatt des Jan Metsys zuordnet. Außerdem beigegeben ein Gutachten des Art Loss Register; jeweils in Kopie.

In Tabernakel-Rahmung dessen untere Leiste das Vorhandensein des offenen Sarkophags suggeriert. Der Leichnam Christi wird über dem offenen Sarkophag gehalten, von Johannes und Joseph von Arimathäa, hinter ihm trauert Maria. Der Hintergrund wird von einer hügeligen bis schroff felsigen Landschaft gebildet. Vergleichbar, wenngleich in spiegelbildlicher Auffassung, ist auch eine Grablegungsszene des Quentin Metsys (1466–1530) im Diözesanmuseum Gaeta. Eine seitengleiche Komposition wird im Museum Leuven verwahrt.

Accompanied by a statement from Larry Silver, dated 30 June 2012, who attributes the painting offered here to the workshop of Jan Massys. Also included is a report from the Art Loss Register, each in copy.

A comparable, albeit mirrored, Entombment scene by Quentin Massys is held at the Diocesan Museum of Gaeta; a composition of the same side is held at the Museum Leuven.
