Reizvolle Ansicht mit aufgetakelten Segelschiffen und bemannten Ruderbooten vor der Stadtsilhouette von Amsterdam mit dem Schreiertoren, der 1487 an der Ecke zwischen IJ und der Ostseite der Stadt erbaut wurde.
Der Künstler war Schüler der Reichsakademie von Amsterdam und des dem Landschaftsmalers George Andries Roth (1809 – 1887). Anfänglich malte er Landschaften, wandte sich jedoch später Stadtansichten zu, die er lebhaft ausgestaltete. Seine Inspiration fand er in Städten wie Rotterdam, Dordrecht und Amsterdam.
