Further information on this artwork

(1201934) (5) (13)

CUPID AND PSYCHEOil on canvas. Relined.
133 x 177 cm.
In gilt, moulded frame.

Psyche has just opened a jar, which should have contained a beauty ointment by Pluto‘s wife Proserpina, but instead the content of the jar only sends here in a death-like sleep.

Literature:
Massimo Pirondini, Inedito dipinto de Cherubino Alberti, illustrated with ill. no.3.
In his publication Pirondini refers to models such by Il Cigoli and his workshop, as for example an inverted depiction held at Museo di Palazzo Braschi in Rome.
