Der Marinemaler J. C. Greive, ein Schüler seines Onkels Petrus Franciscus Greive und von Cornelis Springer, trägt hier, ganz im klassischen Stil der holländischen Malerei des 19. Jahrhunderts, ein schönes Marinemotiv vor. Unter einem bleiernen Himmel, an dem die hellen, weichen Wolken Raum für die am Horizont dunkleren Wolken machen, beleben Fischer und Familien mit Kindern den Strand. In der Mitte steht ein Boot mit gehissten Segeln, dessen Weiß sich vom gräulichen Ton der gesamten Komposition abhebt. Eine kräftige Pinselführung mit naturnahem Kolorit sowie eine sorgfältige Auswahl von Details, wie die weiße Möwe, die sich als Silhouette vom dunklen Himmel abhebt, sind typisch für Greives Arbeit. Seine Werke, meist maritime Landschaften aus der Umgebung von Amsterdam, zeigte er ab 1861 in Den Haag, Wien, Amsterdam und Berlin. (1391612) (19)
