Founded in 1846. Opened in 1853. Severely damaged during the Second World War. A new building, designed by the architect Alexander von Branca, was opened at the same location in 1981. With approximately 4,500 paintings and some 300 sculptures, it is one of the largest German collection of nineteenth century art. Varying special exhibitions of the Graphische Sammlung (Works on Paper). Works exhibited include those by the following artists: David, Gainsborough, Goya, Hogarth, W.v.Kobell, Constable, Stubbs, C.D. Friedrich, Rottmann, Blechen, v. Dillis, W. v. Kaulbach, Menzel, Degas, Maillol, Delacroix, Achenbach, Corinth, Liebermann, Cézanne, Gauguin, van Gogh, Rodin and many more.

Founded in 1826 by Max I Joseph. Opened in 1836. Designed by architect Leo von Klenze. Re-opened after the Second World War in 1958. The Alte Pinakothek is one of the oldest and most important museums in the world. Works exhibited include those by the following artists: Baldung Grien, Cranach the Older, Mielich, P. Breughel the Older, G. David, Bosch, Altdorfer, Dürer, Grünewald, Holbein, Raffael, Signorelli, Fra Angelico, Tintoretto, Tizian, Veronese, Rubens, Rembrandt, Frans Hals and many more.

Four major museums in the areas of art, works on paper, architecture and design under one roof: the Pinakothek der Moderne is one of the world’s largest museums for art of the 20th/21st century. The open, spacious building invites visitors to discover connections and gain new, surprising insights. Temporary exhibitions and events from various cultural domains round off the museum’s interdisciplinary program.
