Seeschlacht mehrerer Kriegsschiffe mit geblähten Segeln und in die gleiche Richtung strebende Beflaggung. Die bewegte Meeresoberfläche trägt Schiffstrümmer und Schiffsbrüchige durch die Wogen. Die Farbgebung erinnert an ein Gemälde von Cornelis de Wael, das 1998 im Dorotheum in Wien unter Losnummer 192 angeboten wurde. Rest.
Der Maler war bekannt für seine Genreszenen, vor allem aber für seine Seeschlachten. Er spielte eine große Rolle im künstlerischen Stil- und Gedankenaustausch zwischen Italien und Flandern in der ersten Hälfte des 17. Jahrhunderts. (12501412) (13)

The colouration is similar to one of Cornlis de Wael‘s paintings sold at auction in 1998 at the Dorotheum in Vienna, lot 192. Restored.
